The stars began to vanish into the cold light of the morning sun, slowly reseeding away. Kirara stood alone atop a slight hill, silently crying to herself.
“Dam it Kirara you don’t cry...” She whispered to herself angrily. Crying is for the weak, and I’m not weak...
She glanced to the horizon, the sun not yet there. Dawn was her favourite time of day. The way the world transform from dark to light. How the darkness left dew drops on the grass and on leave. How the birds began to commence in a beautiful symphony. She loved the world, but right now, she despised it.
“You okay there?” A voice asked, and Kirara turned to see Demyx loping up the hill. He stood not far from her and smiled. “You’re up early, you usually like to sleep in.”
“I’m fine, honest.” She grinned. She was a superb liar. “Just came to get some fresh air, I had a bad dream.”
“You sound like me.” He smirked. “I would lie too when I was upset, I hated others knowing I was vulnerable.”
“I’m not upset, and I’m not lying!” She swished her tail irritable and looked towards the sun as it finally ascended to the sky.
“Why were you crying then?” He asked, but before she could retaliate he cut her off. “I can see the trail of tears down your cheeks in the sunlight.”
Dam!
“So? Maybe I was... Just... thinking things through...”
“Terrible liar.” He laughed stepping closer.
“It still sounds weird to hear your laugh. You’re so different than before.” She announced before she could stop herself. “I mean... I never knew you before the accident. Were you like this?”
“Nah, I just realised I’ve wasted half my life seeing the glass half empty, and now I know I need to make up for lost time.” He grinned, now looking to the sunset too. “Call me corny.”
“I think your glass was more shattered into pieces than half empty.” She laughed.
“Then... I got a new glass, didn’t I?”
She paused and searched his face. His amber eyes were brilliant, like golden ring around his iris, in the equally rich sunrise.
“Guess so.”
“..I ahh... I came up here to tell you something... by the way...”He trailed off and glanced to her. “I know your having a tough time with this other stallion, and giving away Lyriana. Then Gunner turned his back on you... and all that stuff...”He saw her flinch at Gunners name, and whimper at Lyrianas. “But I’m worried you sinking into the place I have been all the years... And I don’t want you to go there.”
“I’m fine Demyx, honest. Shit happens, I’ll get over it.” She shrugged, smiling reassuringly. But he knew it was all a disguise.
“Listen to me, I don’t want to loose a friend to that dark, lonely place. If you keep pushing away everyone and pretend to be okay, you’ll just keep falling until you crash and burn.” He was so close, his eyes aching with desperation. “I want to help you be happy.”
“... You can’t.” She said sadly, giving in and crumbling inside. “How...”
“By letting me be your shoulder to lean on, your friend. I can help you, I want to help you.” He stepped closer still, nuzzling her neck comfortingly. “That’s all I want, to have a purpose. I know I can help you.”
“... Fine... We’ll make a deal.” Snapping her head up and eyes shining their brilliant blue, and smiling. Hiding it all once again... “I’ll let you help me, if you let me help you.”
“Deal.” He smiled, laughing. “You never let down you guard, do you?”
“Nope!”
